Magali Noth - Program Director for OFS Lafayette

I came in the US in 1995 to learn English. While studying on the campus at Mills College, I noticed their Children’s School (Lab School). I was surprised to see a school exploring and applying different developmental approaches, including Jean Piaget’s approach, in the classroom. For me those approaches had always been conveyed at a theoretical level, never at a practical level. Therefore, I chose to transfer from the University in Switzerland to Mills College to learn how to apply those approaches in the classroom.
I finished my BA and went for my Masters in Early Childhood Education with and Emphasis in Child Life. I felt very inspired studying with Dr. Linda Perez, who’s work has greatly been focused on brain development, and learning more in depth the importance of Bowlby’s and Erickson’s work in Early Childhood Education.
After I completed my Masters Degree I was hired as a Head Teacher at the Mills College’s Children’s School. I was also a lecturer in the Education Department. After a couple of years, I chose to challenge and pursue my growth in the field by becoming the Program Director at the Old Firehouse School in Lafayette and working with Dr. Dorothy Stewart.
